“Self-defence, self confidence, discipline and self control. The values you learn are priceless.”
– Rickson Gracie
Self-defence means the use of physical force to protect oneself from the attacker. It is very important as it allows you to protect yourself, build confidence, awareness and take appropriate actions in a dangerous situation. The most obvious reason is that you want to be prepared to defend yourself or your family if you’re ever in danger. Self-defence has become a necessity for every growing child and individual today. Martial arts empower children with the knowledge of self-defence.
It enables children to develop self-confidence, self-discipline and self-respect, as well as respect for others. With martial arts children witness an immediate positive effect on their lives, and become good members of society.
Crimes like child trafficking and child-abusing are rapidly increasing, which is a severe issue for our country. A child who has self-defence training does not need anyone to protect him/her. On top of that, he/she can help others on the time of distress. Impregnated with all the training, a child will not stand during the odd situations in front of their eyes. Besides focusing on educational excellence, institutions should also focus on self-defence. It is an essential part of the pedagogy to give due attention to physical fitness. Children will get resplendent with all the positive things. Not only that, but it will also reflect through their whole career. Keeping all these in mind, BRS School, Bidaraguppe has arranged the session of self-defence from grade-1 to grade-8. BRS was fortunate to have a trainer of ‘silambam’, to show the students some vital techniques of martial art. Mr. Vishal Raj, a parent came with an assistant, and with the help of a few 8th grade students and two teachers demonstrated self-defence techniques. Unarmed martial arts employing kicking, striking, and defensive blocking with arms and legs was shown. Students learnt to defend themselves if attacked from the front or back using hand and leg movement. BRS is very grateful for Mr. Vishal Raj taking time off to show the students vital techniques of self-defence.
In real life we are often met with challenges. Children learn not to be passive bystanders. Martial art teaches that it doesn’t matter how hard you fall to the ground. What matters is that you get back up and keep pushing forward.
A big thank you to Mr. Vishal Raj!
