A number of activities are organised to promote the use of this modest means of transport.

Cycling is a fun form of exercise for all ages, and a path to better health. It improves muscle strength and joint mobility. It helps to reduce weight and increases cardiovascular fitness. It helps in the prevention and management of disease. Not only does it improve physical health, but cycling eases stress and creates a feeling of well-being. It has been rightly said that “a bicycle ride is a flight from sadness.”

Cycling can easily be incorporated into our daily routine; one can cycle to the park, to school or the grocery store. Above all, cycling helps to save our planet, as it is environment friendly. This affordable mode of transport does not create any pollution.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, highlighting the importance of cycling, said, “Cycling is necessary for Fit India and health.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a picture of Gandhiji riding a bicycle, and tweeted to take inspiration from Gandhiji to lead a healthy lifestyle.
