SEED BALL MAKING ACTIVITY 2022

Date: 21 June 2022

Description:

“Don’t judge each day By the harvest You reap, but By the seeds That you plant.” – Robert Louis Stevenson.

Making seed balls and scattering them is a step to protecting the environment, as all the flowers and trees of the tomorrows are in the seeds of today. Students of Grade-I, II and III participated in the innovative activity of making seed balls, which was conducted in the premises of BRS Global School, Bidaraguppe. The higher-grade students brought the variety of seeds like mango, jackfruit, jamun etc and vegetables seeds. The small children enjoyed collecting mud from the school ground and mixing the seeds in to make seed balls. This simple activity created an awareness to nurture nature.

The fun activity of making and throwing seed balls propagates plants and tree without the need for cultivation. Wrapping the seeds protects them till they germinate. Seed balls are amazingly versatile. They can be thrown into places which cannot be reached. They can restore plant life in forgotten lands.

The practice of using seed balls is as far back an ancient Egypt. They were rediscovered and popularized by a Japanese farmer, philosopher and agriculturist – Masanobu Fukuoka, to restore farm land.

Trees are our best friends because they clean the air we breathe, prevent soil erosion and ultimately make the earth a better place. People who live near trees are healthier and happier than those who do not. By planting seeds, we are not only making our surroundings beautiful, but we are doing ourselves a favour as our lives depend on sustaining the environment.
